Best Of Houston® 2025: Best Place to Buy Plants
Best Place to Buy Plants: Eden Plant Co.
When the folks who developed POST Houston began drawing up designs for a downtown hub for humans, they added plenty of plant life to the mix. There’s an abundance of greenery surrounding the building and up top too within its five-acre urban rooftop park. All that botany is stunning outside of the former post office’s concrete and glass, but it’s even more impressive within the POST, thanks to Eden Plant Co.
This is an atypical garden center, spread graciously throughout one of the building’s main foyers, creating, as Eden puts it, “an urban jungle” within the confines of the cultural center. The establishment also sells coffee, so you can order a matcha and a side of Alocasia Black Velvet (not a dessert, but a tropical houseplant). There’s plentiful seating, allowing for a peaceful, quiet place around the corner from The POST’s busy food court for sipping good lattes and gazing upon various plants. Eden also never forgets it’s inside a structure meant to gather people (and plants!) together and it boasts an impressive slate of events, including concerts, wellness classes, workshops and a neat “Sip & Plant” event, which showcases good wines and the key points of planting, perfect for those who choose to carry a little of Eden’s urban jungle back to their own homes and yards.
