She’s in her 70s and shows no signs of slowing down. Having performed in drag for more than 50 years, Dina Jacobs ranks among the best of the best of Houston entertainers. No death drops or twirling dance numbers are required for this showgirl. She’s got the emotional depth to deliver a ballad that will bring a tear to the eye, and she’s also got the verve to add sass and spunk into her appearances. From the mere second she steps her jewel encrusted shoe on the stage, it’s all eyes on her – no questions asked.
Jacobs has a humongous following, too. Whenever she is listed as a guest entertainer, tickets sell out and the venue is left with standing-room-only accommodations.
The keen-eyed drag pageant overlords agree as well. Jacobs has brought home her fair share of titles, including Miss World 1980, Miss Gay USA 1981 and Universal Showqueen 1990.
She is style; she is grace; she is a living legend. All hail the queen.
