Best Choir: Houston Treble Choir
Of all the dynamic choirs in Houston, some of the most beautiful music is coming from the mouth of babes. Houston Treble Choir, which is composed of young ladies from grades 6-12, is the incubator for up-and-coming performers. To see this group of youngsters perform is awe-inspiring. The singers, for the most part, might be too young to vote, but they vocalize with the maturity of seasoned performers and the training regimen of Olympians. Nearing its 20th anniversary, the choir is no doubt the natural outcome of founder Marianna Parnas-Simpson’s devotion and skill to accentuate the best of these vocal virtuosi.
As the resident children’s choir at Christ Church Cathedral and a frequent guest at Houston Chamber Choir’s holiday concert, the group is making sonic waves across the city. The organization is gaining national recognition too. Around the country, the choir’s performance highlights include Carnegie Hall; the International Choral Festival in Powell River, British Columbia; and the Washington National Cathedral. Treble Choir of Houston was named the finalist of the 2021 National American Prize Competition in Youth Choir Division.
